Ovulation
This is the release of matured ovum (egg) from the ovary, which is then transported into the fallopian tube, in preparation for fertilization by a sperm
If fertilization did not occur, the egg is resorbed into the body.
Signs of Ovulation
- Changes in cervical mucus.
Before ovulation, the cervical mucus is thick, white and sticky. At ovulation, it becomes thin and slippery (stretchable). This enables sperm to swim through it towards the fallopian tube for fertilization. - Increased core body temperature.
Ovulation causes a slight increase of about 0.5-1 degrees rise in the body temperature. - Hormonal surge
There is usually a surge of Luteinizing Hormone (LH) 24-36 hours before ovulation. This can be detected using ovulation kit.

- Breast tenderness
- Mood changes
- Increased libido
- Abdominal cramps
- Feeling bloated
- Spotting
- Cervical changes
- Heightened sense of smell
- Increased appetite
